Although relatively few people go on to become professional or even amateur actors or actresses, at one time or another, nearly all people become infatuated with and aspire to a career on the stage, silver screen or small screen. And despite the majority of people who may be terribly afraid even at the mere mention of public speaking, most people, if given the chance, would eagerly jump at the opportunity to slip into the role of an actor or actress. In a world where most people would gladly trade their life for that of another, actors and actresses have the unique opportunity to not only masquerade as different fantastical characters on, usually, a regular basis, but be loved and admired, and have fame and fortune thrust upon them for their ability to be someone they are not.

Of course, for most, the fantasy of being an actor or actress fades like many of the dreams and fantasies of childhood. But consider for a moment if those youthful desires to appear on screen or stage were fostered by parents aware of the opportunities available for the aspiring big star or starlet. As children are zealously steered in the directions of big dreams, at younger and younger ages, be it as baseball and basketball players, modeling and the like, what about the performing arts? Where are the acting lessons and summer acting camps for the children with the dreams and the parents with means?

Far from as oppressive as some youth programs, summer acting camps strive to introduce campers not only to the finer points of their craft, but to the many other genres of the performing arts. Far from the bright lights of New York City and Hollywood, some of the summer acting camps offer the woodsy, green backdrops of more traditional summer camps with plenty of performance space for acting lessons, dance lessons, musical training and fine art with trained instructors.

An excellent example of summer acting camps is Long Lake Camp For the Arts. Long Lake Camp For the Arts offers a long list of performance art summer camps, including summer acting camps. Located in New York state, summer acting camp kids get NYC acting classes and advice far from the hustle and bustle of the New York City. Summer acting camps and the like are offered at just under $5000 for each three week session. Also available are six week summer acting camps at just under $8000. The summer acting camps are designed for children 10-12 years old and for preteens 13-16 years old. In addition to summer acting camps, Long Lake Camp For the Arts also offers traditional camp activities like arts and crafts and horseback riding.

Although most kids may seem too young to have career paths in mind as teenagers, some fail to have career paths in mind as college students, summer acting camps may allow children early exposure and cultural awareness. The performing arts, be it summer acting camps, music camps and the like although a large financial investment, may prove an invaluable lifelong experience for a child.
