Acting, a dream sought out by young men and women seeking fame and riches. Although it may seem easy to read lines and smile for the camera, amateur actors can be spotted like a black sheep. Just like learning how to read, acting takes practice with well-guided instruction. Taking acting lessons from schools in New York City and London can help move an acting career along with leaps and bounds.

When searching for  acting lessons on the Internet, the browser quickly pops up with millions of hits. Universities, summer programs, private firms and many other mind boggling options flood the bright screen with links begging to be opened. With all these choices, it can be hard for aspiring actors to decide which acting school will provide acting lessons that will best meet his or her needs. The first step is to decide on the type of acting. Whether they are movie acting lessons or film acting lessons the future actor can follow their dreams by checking into an acting school. The three most popular genres of acting are film, movie and stage acting. Though it may appear that film and movie acting are very similar, they have their slight differences.

A highly regarded school that an amateur actor can look into is the New York Film Academy Film School. The academy offers an attractive array of programs and acting lessons that students can choose from to brighten their acting career. The school advertises an intense hands-on summer program that ranges from one to twelve week workshops. Like most big schools, acting lessons do not come cheap. For an eight-week class, students can attend workshops in New York City, Universal Studios Hollywood, Milan, Italy, or Dublin, Ireland, for a $5,000. With this program, students can take acting lessons to improve their technique on screen, voice projection and quality, and improvisation skills to name a few. Tuition for an entire semester at the New York Academy Film School in New York City is $12,000  for film acting lessons. The tuition varies according to the entertainment discipline chosen.

Crossing over the Atlantic, the London Academy offers traditional movie acting lessons as well as courses in public speaking and radio presentation. Not only does the London Academy have an extensive acting department, but the school also offers disciplines in television, radio, beauty and makeup, photography and voice training to name a few. At the Academy, students will have the option of taking daytime, evening or weekend classes, which benefits students who care to work while also going to school. At 8,000 British Pounds (about $16,000) for a one-year plan, the school is a little pricier than New York, but offers many more disciplines. With the completion of the acting lessons the student will leave the academy with a diploma in their subject of choice. The school also offers intensive, fast-paced summer courses, however, the space is very limited since the workshop-structured classes are very small.

Taking a chance with acting lessons will surely pay off, however, it is important for aspiring actors to do their homework first to avoid being stuck with more student loans than they can handle. Online acting magazines provide substantial information regarding acting lessons, a future career in entertainment, and can provide alternatives to large universities. Plus they are free!
